LTTE Bunker Lines Attacked; Five Tigers Killed

JAFFNA: ONE MORE OFFENSIVE ASSAULT on the LTTE bunker line in the south of A-9 route at MUHAMALE was reported last night (24) around 7.00 p.m. where at least five LTTE cadres in the bunkers were confirmed killed.

After observing LTTE movements along their bunker lines, troops launched this lightning attack and took this target successfully.

Meanwhile, troops serving PANNDATHIRIPPU area in JAFFNA on a tip-off supplied by a civilian conducted a search on an abandoned house at about 5.30 p.m. on Thursday (24) and unearthed two hand grenades, one micro pistol, one magazine, seven 9 mm pistol rounds and several other warlike items while remained buried in the kitchen premises.

In the meantime, troops deployed in the general area of MUHAMALE during day time search operations on Thursday (24) came across a number of booby traps, powerful mines and other Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) that had been laid to trap soldiers moving in that area.

On two such occasions around 9.00 a.m. and 2.55 p.m. on Thursday (24), three soldiers sustained injuries in explosions of LTTE IEDs. Two valiant soldiers however succumbed to injuries while clearing the area.
