Little Anulians Show Their Warmth to War Heroes

THE TUTORIAL staff and budding students at Nugegoda Anula Vidyalaya, mindful of invaluable sacrifices, being made by valiant Army soldiers for the sake of the Motherland, offered their share of goodwill and loving-kindness by way of donating twenty-five sets of artificial limbs during a brief ceremony on Tuesday (5).

The school atmosphere retained a look of respect, admiration, chivalry and solemnity as disable Army soldiers got off their bus and entered the venue of the ceremony.  Mrs. S.N Malaviarachchi, principal and the staff in the company of students who have been instrumental in raising funds for the manufacture of those limbs received Lt. Colonel Dr. Ariyarathna, Head, Orthopedic section in the Ragama Ranaviru Sevana (Rehabilitation center for handicapped War Heroes) and Coordinator for the project, Mrs. Nilanthi Silva, a senior member of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch and War Hero recipients of limbs with open arms on arrival at the school premises. Ven. Bogambara Rathanajothi Thero, Incumbent, Sri Dhammaramaya, Nugegoda delivered a special ‘Anusasana’ (oration) on the occasion highlighting the special importance of this donation at this hour of our history.

Tie-clad girl students, extending their warmth to those disable soldiers made them to participate in religious rites as they lined up to make offerings to the shrine at the school complex before the ceremony got to a start. Before soldiers showed up, those students have already penned their thoughts on their heroic deeds in neatly and nicely-prepared dockets to be gifted to them. It was moving to see how those students knelt down in tears before the soldiers after offering artificial limbs. They shared with them and displayed the maximum thoughtfulness as brothers and sisters of a single family.

Towards the end of the day’s agenda, teachers and students spoke to those valiant soldiers separately, shared their views and gave away gift parcels to them extending their best wishes. As the bus carrying visiting soldiers was moving out of the school premises after taking leave of them, all the Anulians  flocked together to bid goodbye to them.
