Defender of the Nation

Let Us Honour Those Deserving Honour On This Historic Victory Day

IT HAS BEEN a year since the brutal cycle of LTTE terrorism ended. As the dusk fell on May 18, 2009, all Sri Lankans impatiently glued to the electronic media to hear the fate that befell the monster, Prabhakaran, the megalomaniac mass murderer in contemporary Sri Lanka.

Nandikadal lagoon that struck the last nail on the utopian Eelam coffin will reverberate as tears continue to roll down the cheeks of surviving victims of LTTE terrorism, next of kin of hundreds of thousands of slain dear ones . Fear psychosis among the public has vanished, instead a new beacon of hope has dawned.

This is also the best moment to remember and extol innumerable sacrifices made by our valiant War Heroes of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and the Civil Defence Force. Let us honour those who deserve our honour. The peace we enjoy today is an immortal symbol of their commitment and indisputable heroism.

Soldiers, as they say, will never die and their memories will continue to remain as long as the people of Sri Lanka could breathe. Let us light an oil lamp in their memory and show our solidarity with War Heroes of our times, their bereaved families and children. May all those fallen War Heroes attain Nibbana! May War Heroes recuperating be well and happy. Let us resolve to rebuild our Motherland from now onwards and take it to bliss of prosperity.
