EAST: DETERMINED SOLDIERS OF THE Sri Lanka Army finally recaptured VAKARAI, east of BATTICALOA, forcing LTTE terrorists flee the area today (19) afternoon.
Troops advanced amidst heavy resistance to liberate the VAKARAI town and the hospital of which terrorists had taken forcible taken control in order to provide medical treatment to their injured cadres. (See Situation Report On 17th January 2007)
LTTE terrorists were using VAKARAI as one of their artillery bases to attack Security Forces using innocent civilians as a human shield.
Ground troops are presently consolidating their positions in the VAKARAI town area.
