Kopay's New 'Harmony Centre' Built by 15 SLNG Troops Declared Open

51 Division HQ of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna with sponsorship provided by the well-known philanthropist, Mr Vamadeva Thiyagendran, Founder, 'Thiyahie Charitable Trust' gifted a newly-built multi-purpose, 'Harmony Centre' for the benefit of youngsters in the general area of Kopay during a brief ceremony on Tuesday (29).

The new utility centre as one more community service project, built by 15 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops of the 511 Brigade under the theme 'Let's Awaken Together' at the invitation of the sponsors would function as a common platform for training in aesthetics, IT, community health, education, sewing, communication, children's and women's affairs, dancing, religious and cultural activities, agriculture, disaster management, sports, vocational training modules, carpentry, etc where local youngsters of all age groups including school drop-outs could undergo training free of charge through the coordination done by 51 Division troops in the area.

Mr Vamadeva Thiyagendran, Founder, 'Thiyahie Charitable Trust ' who has been instrumental in launching many a civil-military cooperation project for the benefit of needy civilians in the peninsula in the past few years in close collaboration with Security Forces in Jaffna sponsored the purchase of both land and raw materials for the new 'Harmony Centre' in Kopay in order to further promote goodwill and reconciliation gestures. The construction of the new 'Harmony Centre' cost about Rs 1.5 million to the 'Thiyahie Charitable Trust'

Soon after its auspicious opening, several children were enrolled to different training courses, scheduled to take place in the premises. Symbolic gifts as incentives to entrants were also distributed on the same occasion. With the blessings of Major General Senarath Bandara, Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna, Major General Lalith Rathnayake, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division representing the Jaffna Commander, together with the donor, Mr Vamadeva Thiyagendran opened the new 'Harmony Centre' at Kopay.
