Kilinochchi Troops Launch Eye Clinic & Distribute Free Glasses

Intending to provide all possible assistance to those who have vision impairments and need optical treatment, the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) with the support of the 65 Division on Tuesday (4) took steps to get a mobile eye clinic, conducted for the benefit of civilians in Kilinochchi and its suburbs at the Kilinochchi Nelum Piyasa auditorium.

At the request of the SFHQ-KLN, ‘Colombo Vision Care’ optometrists and surgeons, headed by Mr Dasantha Fonseka and his team, screened 244 civilians for vision impairments during the clinic.

Of them, 210 civilians were recommended to use eye glasses for vision and 34 others were prescribed reading glasses on the same occasion. The arrangement was coordinated actively by 65 Division troops under the command of Major General Sarath Weerawardana, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division.

This community project of the SFHQ-KLN received the full support of the Vision Care team who distributed a large stock of eye glasses free of charge among clinic attendees.

Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces – Kilinochchi (SF-KLN) attended the community project while it was on and thanked the sponsors for their great support. Major General Sarath Weerawardana was also associated with the inaugural occasion of the mobile clinic.
