Kilinochchi Troops Detect Biggest Haul of 323 kg of Cannabis

In what could be considered as one of the biggest hauls in the recent history, alert 2 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops, together with Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) members of the 663 Brigade of the 66 Division under the Security Force HQ-Kilinochchi during small hours on Saturday (29) apprehended a suspect with a haul of 323 kg of Kerala Ganja (cannabis) while being transported in a lorry proceeding towards Pallawarayankaddu in the general area of Weravil, Jayapuram.

On military intelligence received from MIC troops, the Bravo Company troops of the 2 SLNG troops, together with the Commanding Officer rushed to the venue and stopped the vehicle (Ashok Leyland) which had 323 kg of cannabis concealed in separate packs.

Troops arrested the vehicle driver and handed over him, together with cannabis to the nearest Special Task Force personnel at Iranamadu before the suspect with the vehicle was handed over to the Jayapuram Police station for further investigations and onward actions.

Major General M.D Wijesundara, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division, together with Colonel K.L.S.S Liyanagama, 663 Brigade Commander closely supervised the entire operation on the guidelines given by Major General Jayantha Gunaratne, Commander, Security Forces, Kilinochchi.
