On the eve of the dawn of the New Year – 2018, over 2500 Kilinochchi youths and civilians joined hands with an equal number of Army and Civil Security Department personnel to enjoy festive spirits in a musical extravaganza, organized by the 57 Division Headquarters at Kilinochchi Central College grounds on Sunday (31).
Aimed at promoting goodwill, harmony and reconciliation among all ethnicities in Kilinochchi and its suburbs, the musical entertainment on 31st night was backed by three popular music bands, ‘Sihara’ of 4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, ‘Seyoga’ of 3 Gajaba Regiment and ‘Northern Wind’ of the Civil Security Department.
Live and dazzling performances of dancing troupes, Anuradhapura ‘Shinegirl’, 57 Division’s ‘Sathranga’ and the ‘Northern Wind’ of the Civil Security Department coloured the event that went on till the dawn of the New Year day, accompanied by intermittent entertaining features of popular stage artistes, like Jaliya Ranatunga, Achala Lakmali, Shantha Fernando, H.R Soysa and Princess de Silva.
Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces – Kilinochchi at the invitation of Major General Jagath Gunawardane, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, the main organizer of the bash, attended as the Chief Guest, together with many Senior Officers serving in the SFHQ-KLN, Divisions and Brigades in Kilinochchi area.
Entertaining hits as well as other rhythmic beats, sung in Tamil, Hindi, English and Sinhala languages dominated the evening as spectators joined dancing in glee. Children enjoying the evening received light illuminating toys and other gifts as musical beats reached their climax as the evening’s dusk was fast falling. In the meantime, fireworks displayed during the show added glamour and thrill to the occasion.
Major General Sarath Weerawardana, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 65 Division, Major General Rasika Fernando, GOC, 68 Division, Brigadier Tissa Nanayakkara, GOC, 56 Division, Brigadier Jayantha Gunarathna, GOC, 55 Division, Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, GOC, 64 Division, Deputy Inspector General Mahesh Walikanna, Senior Officers serving under SFHQ-KLN, Senior Officers from Police, state officials and private sector invitees also participated in the event.
