Security Forces - Kilinochchi Challenge Soccer Tournament, which saw both civil and Army footballers taking part, culminated on Monday (06) at the Paravipanchan Public ground, Kilinochchi.
Those matches were organized with the objective of promoting the reconciliation and goodwill between the Security Forces and civilians. 06 civil teams of the area competed for the trophy and a large crowd gathered to witness the finals that took place between ‘Jolly Boys’ Sports Club, Poonaryn and Uthayatharagai Sports Club, Kilinochchi. However, Uthayatharagai Sports Club, Kilinochchi won the match with a score of 2- 0.
Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest during the finals of the tournament which was held for both Army and civil teams at the same vennue.
The final matches for Army teams were held between 1 Gajaba Regiment (GR) and 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment (SLLI) teams. After a close encounter, the 1GR team won the match with a score of 4 - 0.
06 civil teams of the area, ‘Jolly Boys’ Sports Club, Pooneryn and Uthayatharagai Sports Club, Kilinochchi played in the finals. However, Uthayatharagai Sports Club, Kilinochchi won the match after a close tussel.
The Commander, SF - KLN and other invitees gave away trophies and certificates to the winners and runners-up. General Officer Commanding - 65 Division, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and Civilians attended the event.
