More than 50 placard-carrying civilians with a memorandum, containing more than 200 signatories, staged a protest close to the Vadamarachchi South, demanding re-establishment of the recently-removed Kallikai Army point at Karaveddy, Jaffna.
Those civilians in the memorandum, submitted to the nearest 521 Brigade Headquarters, commanded by Colonel Tikiri Dissanayake, explicitly attributed the area’s most recent increase of anti social criminal activities to the withdrawal of the Army point from Kallikai, in conformity with the government’s policy of demilitarizing areas with the civil population.
With a copy to the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J), a representative group in the protesting crowd met Colonel Tikiri Dissanayake, Commander, 521 Brigade Headquarters and requested him to take immediate action for restoration of the Kallikai Army point which was disbanded on 7th August 2012.

Withdrawal of Kallikai Army Camp
We, the people of Karaveddy have faced inconveniences due to withdrawal of the Kallikai Army camp. Thefts, sexual abuses on school children, anti social behaviouir of drunkards and stealing of animals in the area have increased after the camp was removed. Occurrence of those incidents was rare during the presence of the camp. Therefore, we kindly request you, as the Jaffna Commander to re-establish the Kallikai Army camp and help us protect our people in Karaveddy. We, the people of Karaveddy sign underneath.
