More than 100 soldiers serving the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) swiftly jumped into action and wrested control of a fast spreading bushfire in Kovalam Paddy area in the general area of the island, Karainagar.
Karainagar-based 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops of the 51 Division when informed of the bushfire promptly responded and rushed to the area on the instructions of their Commanding Officer and did everything possible to bring the situation under control on Wednesday (17).
The bushfire however has caused destruction to nearly 2 acres of forest area, and civilians in the area also supported Army efforts. The fire was completely brought under control within a matter of two hours.
