'Kandula' Brings Smiles & Tears in Jaffna

A gathering of more than 5000 religious dignitaries, tri-service and Police personnel, university and school students, state officials, civilians and some Sri Lankan expatriates on holiday in Jaffna, in an exceptional gesture of solidarity and understanding enjoyed the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J)-organized popular 'Kandula' musical interaction of Brother Charles Thomas on Saturday (17).

This entertaining programme of novel nature, designed to promote peace and ethnic harmony was performed at the SFHQ-J for the second consecutive year at the invitation of Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J).

The self-claimed philanthropist, Mr Charles Thomas, who strongly believes in brotherhood, spiritual advancement and human values of people that could be tapped and stimulated through musical interpretations for creation of a better human society, has won admiration and appreciation of internet surfers and the common folk after he launched the project, 'Kandula', in which he selects most popular hits of singers and explains the true meaning of those lyrics in simple terms, describing the message the specific songs wanted to convey.

Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, SF-J, together with several Senior Officers graced the occasion and enjoyed the programme with thousands of others.
