"Jaya Piritha" Invokes Blessings on Country, President and War Heroes

The "Jaya Pirith" chanting was held at BMICH yesterday, (10 May) invoking blessings to the country, the President and the war heroes with the participation of 3000 monks invited from all parts of the Island.

The Ministry of Defence organized the "Jaya Pirith" chanting for the fourth time in succession.

Mahanayaka of Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven Udugama Buddarakkitha Thera, Anunayaka Thera of Malwatta Chapter Ven Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera, President of Amarapura Sangha Sabha and Chief Incumbent of Dharmapalaramaya, Mount Lavinia Ven Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thera were among the erudite monks who participated in the pirith chanting ceremony.

Anunayaka Thera of Malwatta Chapter Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera in his Anusasana said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa deserves all the credit for eliminating terrorism from the country.

Chief Incumbent of Kelaniya Vidyalankara Pirivena and Chief Sangha Nayaka Thera of Colombo and Chilaw Division Ven Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Thera in his Anusasana said that the dynamic leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa had paved the way for freeing the country from terrorism.

The Thera added that the country is stepping towards development and the objective of the pirith chanting ceremony is to invoke blessings on the President and all countrymen.

Thera also applauded the efforts of Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who took great efforts in organizing this event for the fourth year in succession.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Service Commanders of Army, Navy and Air Force and IG of Police were among those present.

The "Jaya Pirith" chanting ceremony, followed by an alms giving ceremony held today morning, (11 May) with the participation of 100 monks at BMICH.

A book "Paramartha Vibhangaya & Vinayopadeshaya" penned by Most Venarable Vitiyala Siri Sarananda thera was also presented to the Maha Sanga during the alms giving ceremony.

The Speaker, Chamal Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, three forces Commanders and IG of Police, DG of the Department of Civil Security, DG of MCNS and officials of the Ministry of Defence were also present.
