Japanese Friends Offer Additional Support to 'Brave Hearts' Project

Japan-Lanka Friendship Association, whose magnanimous gesture of goodwill was showering the Sri Lanka Army with much-needed medical accessories, service vehicles and ambulances in the past twelve years, has on its own come forward to assist the ongoing ‘Abimansala’ (Wellness Resort) construction under ‘Brave Hearts’ project at Anuradhapura, being spearheaded by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) on the instructions of the Commander of the Army.

A-14 member delegation, attached to the Japan-Lanka Friendship Association (JLFA), headed by Mayor for Ginan City Mr Matsubara Hideyasu and Dr Lal Thilakarathne, President, JLFA is currently in Sri Lanka.

Earlier this week on Monday (26), the JLFA ceremonially gifted one more ambulance and three more fire engines to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at the Army Headquarters.     

 The same delegation, having learnt of the ‘Brave Hearts’ project, meant for permanently disable War Heroes in the Army, saw that they personally meet the project coordinators and explore possibilities of offering assistance. Accordingly, the delegation visited the SVAB Headquarters at Army Headquarters on Friday (30) and spoke to Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB and senior SVAB members.  

Dr Thilakarathne, President, JLFA during the delegation’s interaction with SVAB members received a comprehensive account of the ongoing ‘Abimansala’ construction project and promised to donate a modern ambulance with extra accessories for the use of disable soldiers, housing at the proposed Wellness Resort in the future. The delegation, impressed with the entire project and the ongoing SVAB welfare roles further assured that they would continue to support until the completion of the Wellness Resort project in whatever the way the possible. 

The SVAB gifted the visitors with mementoes before their departure.

The Japan-Lanka Friendship Association has been at the forefront since 1998 providing a multitude of medical accessories, ambulances and other vehicles to the Sri Lanka Army. 

Senior SVAB members and several senior Army Officers were present at the occasion.
