Jaffna Troops Support Conduct of Commemorative Pinkama

Troops of the 51 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) cooperated with members of the Maha Sangha in Jaffna for conduct of the customary three-month long alms-giving ceremony of late Ven Meegahajandure Gnanarathana Nayake Thero, Chief Sanghanayake for Northern Province and the Incumbent at Jaffna Sri Naga Viharaya on Monday (19) at Naga Viharaya premises in Jaffna town.

HE the President Maithripala Sirisena arrived at the premises Wednesday (19) morning and participated in the alms-giving and religious observances including 'Pen Wedeema'.

Several orations (Anushasana) of the Maha Sangha during the ceremony that transferred merits on late monk lauded his missionary work and the incumbent monk's services and his contribution towards co-existence, reconciliation and restoration of durable peace in the peninsula.

HE the President Maithripala Sirisena, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, together with Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J), Major General Roshan Seneviratne, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division and several other Senior Officers attended the religious programme in Jaffna.

Since late Nayaka Thera had taken charge of the Sri Naga Viharaya in 1991 has worked towards the communal harmony and reconciliation among civilians.

A representative gathering of Buddhist monks, clergy, including His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, Hindu priests, Catholic priests and Maulavis also took part in the ceremony.
