A representative gathering of 1000 soldiers swearing the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) attended a Boodhi Pooja organized at the Sri Naga Viharaya, Jaffna in connection with the 4thanniversary of office and the birthday of their Commander-in-Chief, HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday (18).
Governor for Northern Province, Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri, together with the Commander, SFHQ-J, Major General Udaya Perera, senior officers, other ranks and other devotees from the peninsula attended the Boodhi Pooja Pinkama, administered by Ven. Meegahajandure Siri Vimala Thero.
Before the Pinkama commenced, Mrs Selvi, a woman from Manippay area presented a self-made memento, in which the portrait of HE the President, has been engraved to the Governor, requesting him to send it to the HE the President.
The same day morning, senior officers and a large number of soldiers attended another Pooja at Maviddapuram Skandha temple and invoked blessings on their Commander-in-Chief.
Meanwhile, troops serving different locations in the Jaffna peninsula took part in separate religious and community welfare programmes during the day for the same purpose.
