Jaffna Troops Continue to Support Dengue Eradication Drive in Jaffna Schools

A large contingent of more than 1000 Officers and Army soldiers of 51, 52 and 55 Divisions of the Security Force Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J) within a span of a week (Jan 14-22) enthusiastically conducted separate Dengue Eradication Programmes in 143 more rural schools in the Jaffna peninsula.

Following the notable increase of Dengue deaths and cases in the peninsula, government authorities and health sector officials turned to the (SFHQ-J) for assistance as they repeatedly failed to contain its spread on their own. Earlier, a similar ‘clean-up’ drive, was carried out by the SFHQ-J in 67 Jaffna schools in January (7-8).

Rural schools in Nallur, Thenmarachchi, Vadamarachchi East, Vadamarachchi North, Vadamarachchi South-West, Valikamam East, Valikamam North, Valikamam South and Valikamam in the South-West Divisional Secretariats were covered during the final few days of the drive, supported by students, teachers and the general public.

Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Mahesh Senanayake, responding positively arranged the coordination in close cooperation with educational and school authorities. Students, teachers and civilians joined hands with the troops to make this mammoth campaign a resounding success.
