Following sponsorship, extended to the Army by Ven Thalagala Sumanarathana Nayake Thero, Incumbent at Thalagala International Buddhist Meditation Centre, Horana and by the expatriate, Mr Rod Thambiah of Australia, troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on the directions of Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) were able to put up two new houses for deserving families, living in the general areas of Katkolam and Alvai in Jaffna.
16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops of the SFHQ-J under the supervision of the 551 Brigade of the 55 Division offered their technical expertise for construction of both those houses in less than three months at the request of the donors.
On Wednesday (2), Major General Hettiarrachchi during a brief ceremony, together with Mr Alvai Pillai Sri, Divisional Secretary for Vadamarachchi, Grama Seva Officials, Brigadier Jayantha Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, 551 Brigade Commander, Commanding Officers of 16 SLLI and 4 SLSR Units, several civilians and Officers, formally handed over symbolic keys to the new houses and formally vested both houses in their hands.
The day’s Chief Guest at the same time gifted those families with packs of essentials as tokens of New Year greetings. By the first week of January 2019, the SFHQ-J has put up a number of such single houses at their request in addition to the construction of mega housing schemes in the peninsula.Running sports | Nike
