Jaffna Troops Bid Farewell to Retired Warrant Officer II

Sri Lanka Army troops, condoling with the family of Warrant Officer II (WO II), S. P Kurushumuththu (rtd) of Shivan Street, Urumpirai-East, Jaffna who passed away on Sunday (24) offered all possible assistance to the house of mourning and accorded full military honours during the funeral at Urumpirai cemetery on Tuesday (26).

Warrant Officer II, S. P Kurushumuththu (rtd) who joined the Sri Lanka Army on 26 June 1951 was enlisted to the 1 Field Sri Lanka Engineers Regiment, for which he served until his retirement.

In recognition of his services, he had also been awarded the long service medal by the Army. He also had been an active member in the Jaffna Ex-Servicemen’s Association, founded by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake when he was the Jaffna Commander.

Late Warrant Officer II, S. P Kurushumuththu (rtd) who had also contributed to humanitarian operations and defended the country’s territorial integrity, had served the Army for about 22 years before his retirement.

Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) and several senior officers attended the last rites during the funeral in the cemetery.
