Jaffna Soldiers Celebrate Sinhala & Hindu New Year Festival

Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival which symbolizes cultural unity between Sinhala and Tamil communities organized by the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) got underway on Monday (9) at Polsewana playground in Jaffna under the guidance of Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna as the Chief Guest.

Troops participated in a range of traditional games both inherent among Northerners and Southerners at their time of the years.

The festival was specially organized for both male and female soldiers who stay away from their homes on official commitments during the festival period.

It was observed that soldiers enthusiastically took part in many events and exhibited collective understanding among them. Valuable prizes were also presented to the winners and participants.

Troops serving under the SFHQ-J extended their support in organizing the festival. The Awurudu Kumariya and Awurudu Kumara competitions and a Musical Show in the evening at Thalsewana playground added glamour to the event.

Senior government officials in Jaffna, senior military officers, Air Force officers and Police officers were associated with the event.
