Jaffna to Receive New Coconut Nursery

PLANS are underway in Jaffna to set up a nursery for distribution of quality coconut saplings among civilians and planters in the peninsula.

 Priority in the distribution will be given to resettled families who will get three saplings per family. This was decided during a recent meeting Minister of Plantations Mahinda Samarasinghe has had in Jaffna with senior state officials. Deputy Minister Salinda Dissanayaka, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander Security Forces, Jaffna, District Seretary for Jaffna K Ganesh, Divisional Secretaries in the Northern Province and several others were associated with the discussion.

 The meeting was facilitated by the Jaffna, Security Forces Headquarters on the instructions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.

 Minister Samarasinghe, in addition to the establishment of the coconut nursery underlined the need to introduce new economic crops such as rubber, cashew, sugarcane, coconuts, etc. Major General Hathurusinghe received the ministerial delegation at the Palaly airport.
