Jaffna Pays Tribute to Grade 5 Scholarship Recipients

Fifty-four students who performed well in the 2011 Grade 5 scholarship examination  enjoyed a memorable day when their achievements were rewarded during a special ceremony, organized at the Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office in Jaffna on Sunday (02) morning.
    
Following directives given by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SF-J) organized the ceremony with the intention of appreciating and encouraging those future leaders of the country.

A number of dignitaries attending the ceremony saw 54 Grade 5 students who scored more than 181 marks received monetary donations and school items as gifts from the Jaffna Commander.

Each student was presented a parcel of 50 exercise books and one school bag. Special awards were given to first ten students in order of merit.

R. Nithusika of J/St. John’s Bosco College who scored 192 marks in the examination received a pass book with a deposit of Rs. 10,000/= from the Bank of Ceylon while L. Thilojan of J/Jaffna Hindu Primary College and K. Kavina of J/Meesalai Weerasingham Maha Vidyalaya who scored equal marks of 191 were respectively awarded Rs. 7500/= and Rs. 6000/=. The next seven in line were gifted Rs. 5000/= each.  

Meanwhile, S. Vickneswaran, E. Christilda, V. Vijalathan and V. Vijayaluxmy of the Nufield’s School for Deaf and Blind at Kaithady who excelled at the G.C.E. O/L Examination 2010 were gifted with Rs. 25000/= each during a similar ceremony on the same day.

Leading philanthropist and Engineer, Mr. S. Kirubananthan, the proprietor of Seagull Property Development Pvt. Ltd. Colombo sponsored the donation of Rs. 100,000/= to those four blind students.
