Jaffna's Popular 'Thalsevana Holiday Resort' Gets International Recognition

Sri Lanka Army-owned popular ‘Thalsevana Holiday Resort’, lying on the scenic and shingle beach on Kankesanthurai road in Jaffna, has been awarded the ‘International Star in Leadership in Quality (ISLQ) Award’ in the Gold Category for 2013 by Imagen Arte ImarPress in France, selecting it from 118 countries, considered for award of this prestigious ISLQ Award.

Overlooking the picturesque Jaffna seas in the Indian ocean that surrounds the peninsula, ‘Thalsevana Holiday Resort’, founded on 2 Oct 2010 as a novel project of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) has since then emerged a very popular holiday rest among the members of Army families and the public alike with the increase of tourist influx into the peninsula after the end of terrorism.

Presentation of the ISLQ Award to the ‘Thalsevana Holiday Resort’ took place during a Gala Dinner on Tuesday (2) night at the iconic Palais de Congress de Paris and Concorde La Fayette in Paris in the presence of a representative gathering of world-wide leaders in business, finance, arts, commercials and communication media.

Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Security Force Commander - Jaffna, the architect of the award winning hotel, received the ISLQ Award, in the company of the senior SFHQ-J officer in charge of the project, Lieutenant Colonel W.M.G.C.S.B Wijayasundara and the Thalsevana Holiday Resort’s Resident Manager.

ISLQ Award that recognizes leadership, quality, innovation, excellence, technology, customer service and prestige for this purpose, is presented after going through a voting process during the Imagen Arte ImarPress World Congress meetings, held in London, Geneva, Frankfurt, Paris, Madrid and New York during the past 10 months. In selecting the awardees, Imagen Arte ImarPress gathers information through media consultations, private companies, advertising agencies, trade fairs, chambers of commerce, embassies and polls, which is analyzed by the award selection committee in the end.

The ISLQ principles consider customer satisfaction, leadership, technology, best practice, business results and a few more areas before the award is recommended as an achievement in the hospitality trade after perusing hundreds of countries.

Manned by professionally-trained Army personnel with high degree of courtesy and disciplined service, Thalsevana Holiday Resort has during the past few years received a barrage of written commendations from different ambassadors, diplomats and resident guests since its founding and enjoys a full occupancy rate all the time because of its superb qualitative service, accommodation and the scenic setting.

The programme in Paris included a welcoming reception and presentations, corporate photo sessions of ISLQ recipients, Gala Dinner and the presentation of symbolic awards.
