IOM Officials Call on SF-J Commander

A delegation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) during a fact finding mission to Jaffna paid a courtesy call on the Commander,  Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna Major General  Mahinda Hathurusinghe at Palaly on Wednesday (01) morning.

The delegation, comprised of the IOM Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Mr. Andrew Robert Bruce, Chief of Mission IOM Colombo Mr. Richard Danziger and Project Development and Donor Liaison Officer Mr. Guiseppe Loprete, was briefed on  the Jaffna security situation and measures taken by the Army to enhance the living standards of newly-resettled civilians in respective areas.

The delegation was keen to learn about Crab and Aloe Vera farming projects launched by the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna for ex-LTTE combatants in coordination with the Northern Province Governor’s Office. Initiatives adopted by the Army to generate livelihood for reintegrated ex-LTTE combatants through such projects were greatly appreciated by the visiting officials. The delegation received a brief on the Army-initiated housing projects now in progress for low income families in the peninsula. They were thankful to the Army for its efficiency in completing de-miming, fast resettlement of IDPs and contribution towards the development programmes in Jaffna.
