International Ceylon Masters Badminton Championship Invites Commander to be Chief Guest

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army was invited to be the Chief Guest at the International Ceylon Masters Badminton Association (CMBA) Championship awarding ceremony on Wednesday (28) at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo where a host of former shuttle champions and veterans from India, China, Taipei, Indonesia, Macau, Nepal, New Zealand, Malaysia and Australia vied in the tournament (Nov 26-28).

With 271 entries including 84 overseas players, this first ever badminton tournament for seniors was held under 9 age group categories in 2018.

187 players from the host, Sri Lanka made use of the opportunity during this international event.

Sri Lankan Badminton players won 8 championships and led the medal count.

The day's Chief Guest gave away trophies to the winners in the championship, organized by the Ceylon Masters Badminton Association (CMBA) and was conducted to suit international Badminton World Federation standards. He was warmly welcomed by Senior Officials in the CMBA.

A fair gathering of budding young badminton players got the rare opportunity of witnessing the tournament.

Tournament Director, Ajith Wijayasinghe, Clarence Homer , Secretary CMBA, Rohan de Silva (President CMBA), Sanjeeva Wijesekera (Officer in Charge of Umpires), Trevor Reckerman (Deputy Tournament Director) and a large number of badminton fans participated in the awarding ceremony.
