Inter Regiment Para Cycle & Wheelchair Marathon Races Held in Ratnapura

The Army Para Cycle and Wheelchair Marathon Races - 2017 with the participation of more than 32 competitors kicked off from Ratnapura Seewali ground this morning (15) as a segment of the ongoing Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment Para Games competitions.

The event was organized under the aegis of Major General Dampath Fernando, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army and the Colonel of the Regiment, GW.

This year’s Para Cycle and Wheelchair Marathon Races were organized by the Headquarter Battalion of the Gemunu Watch (GW) Regiment at Kuruwita, Ratnapura.

The Para Cycle Race commenced in front of the ‘Seewali’ stadium Ratnapura and continued up to Pelmadulla clock tower and returned to Ratnapura again covering a distance of more than 53 Km.

In the meantime, the Inter Regiment Para Wheelchair Marathon began from Thiruvana junction, Parakaduwa and reached ‘Seewali’ stadium Ratnapura covering a patch of more than 23 km.

Overall championship of the Para Cycle Race was secured by the Sinha Regiment (SR) team and Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) team became the champions of Wheelchair Marathon Race.

Brigadier K.D.C.G.J Tilakaratne, Centre Commandant, GW awarded certificates and awards to the winners in a simple prize awarding ceremony.

Senior Officers, Officers, Other Rankers and Para Competitors witnessed the event at Ratnapura.
