Inter Regiment Cricket Tournament Brings Victory to SL Artillery

The finals of the Inter Regiment Cricket Tournament (‘A’ group) and the prize-giving ceremony of the tournament took place Thursday afternoon (9) at Sooriyawewa International cricket grounds.

Major General Amal Karunasekara, Chief of Staff of the Army at the invitation of the Army Cricket Committee attended the prize-giving ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Towards end of the tournament, Major General Amal Karunasekara gave away trophies and certificates to the winners in the series. Chairman, Army Cricket Committee, Major General Priyantha Jayasundara also joined the distribution of prizes to the winners.

A total of 19 cricket teams, (in ‘A’ group in ‘B’ group & in Women’s group), representing all Regiments vied in the tournament that began a few weeks ago until the finalists, Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) and Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) were selected to face the final tussle on Thursday (9), in which the cricketers in the Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment won the day in the group.

In the group B category, Gemunu Watch team secured the championship while Gajaba Regiment team became the runners-up.

Women’s 20/20 Inter Unit Cricket tournament was also held at the Artillery grounds in Panagoda during 22 February - 3 March. Out of six teams, 4 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) team secured the championship while 6 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) clinched the runners-up.

Several Senior Officers of the Army too joined the presentation of trophies and certificates to the winners.
