Inter Regiment Athletic Championship - 2016 Ends with New Records

The closing ceremony of the 53rd Army Inter Regiment Athletics Championship and award of trophies to winners took place at the Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium, Diyagama Sunday (25) evening.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for the awarding ceremony.

The 53rd Inter Regiment Athletics Championship Meet - 2016 began on Friday (23) and concluded on Sunday (25).

Multi-coloured Army band displays, physical training demonstrations, march-pasts, fire displays and other entertaining features, added variety and entertainment to the final closing ceremony as soldiers in their hundreds together with sports fans thronged the stadium.

The overall Championship in Men’s events went to the athletes of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers while Sri Lanka Artillery became the runners up.  

In women’s category, 6 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps athletes claimed the championship while 2 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps became the runners up.

Towards the end of the day’s event, the Chief Guest awarded trophies and medals to the competitors who excelled in different fields of athletics during the Meet.

After distribution of trophies, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army addressed the occasion.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva was welcomed on arrival at the occasion by Major General Amal Karunasekara, President, Sri Lanka Army Athletic Committee.
