Inter Division Athletic Championship Produces New Athletes

The closing ceremony of the Inter Division Athletic Meet - 2017 which is organized every year by the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), took place on Sunday (15) at the Punthottam College of Education premises.

All formations under command to 21, 54, 56, 61, 62 Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area - North Central along with 2 (Volunteer) and 4 (Volunteer) Women's Corps of the SFHQ-W, vied for the championship in track and field events during 13-15 October.

The Athletic Meet mirrored the highest professional sportsmanship with many records, set to improve the standards of athletics among the troops in the Wanni sector.

The overall championship went to the 56 Division athletes while 62 Division participants were declared the runners up. According to result achieved in contests between Women's Corps Battalions, the 2 (V) Sri Lanka Women's Corps won the championship in Battalion category while the 4 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps became the runners up.

Troops of the 56 Division and its under command Brigades and Battalions organized the year's Meet on a grand scale with elaborate arrangements put in place under the careful supervision of Brigadier Tissa Nanayakkara, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division.

Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni graced the certificate awarding and closing ceremony as the Chief Guest.

The General Officers Commanding of all Divisions, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers and a large number of Other Ranks were present during the final ceremony.
