Inmates at ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ Attidiya Hold Their Own New Year Festival

On the directions of the Commander of the Army, a ceremony to celebrate the New Year was organized recently at Mihindu Seth Medura, wellness resort for disabled War Heroes.

Highlighting the significance of age-old traditions and religious performances, inmates in the Mihindu Seth Medura in the company of their family members of disabled War Heroes celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year 2017.

Pride of place in the arrangement went to traditional games and sports.

60 inmates and a few hundreds of family members and invitees participated in the New Year festival which was telecast in ‘Sirasa’ TV too.

Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - West (SF-W) and Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Engineers graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was warmly welcomed to the festive occasion by Brigadier Roland Bogodawatte, Commandant, ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ together with Brigadier S.K Thiruwanakarusu, Director Rehabilitation of the Army.

The festival commenced after lighting the traditional hearth, milk pot boiling, etc.

Wheelchair races, feeding the blind, lime balancing, eying the elephant and various other traditional games and sports were included in the day's programme.

The winners of the each event won valuable prizes.

Civil donors as well contributed to the successful conduct of the event.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva allocated funds for conduct of this noble project for the benefit of disabled War Heroes who are resident in this resort.
