Initial Planning Conference on Forthcoming AAPTC’s AGM Held at Kukuleganga IPSOTSL

A preparatory session of the forthcoming Association of Asia-Pacific Peace Operations Training Commanders Conference (AAPTC), aimed at developing a theme and subjects for the AAPTC Annual General Meeting in 2017 got underway for two days (Nov 15 - 16) at the Army’s Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) in Kukuleganga.

This initial planning conference, presided by Major General A.P de Z Wickramaratne, Director General General Staff was contributed to by Mr. Steven Takeshi Takekoshi of United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), Major General MdEnayetUllah and Major Gazi Ashiqur Rahman of the AAPTC Secretariat in Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operations Training (BIPSOT), Lieutenant Commander Wendy S.Ng of the US Navy in the US Embassy, Wing Commander (Retd) Chanaka Fernando, Chief of Office of Defence Cooperation and Military Programmed Specialist, Brigadier G.V Ravipriya, Director Training at the Army Headquarters, Brigadier H.P.N.K Jayapathirana, Commandant, IPSOTSL, Lieutenant Colonel K.T.P De Silva, Chief Instructor, IPSOTSL and members of the instructor staff at IPSOTSL.

The discussions centrered largely on the need for collective responsibility and collaborative efforts in reaching globally recognized standards in peace keeping training and operations.

Director General General Staff in his opening remarks to the planning conference underlined the significance of using the forthcoming event as a basis to bolster existing defence ties at international levels in order to promote global peace and world-wide defence cooperation. He also mentioned the roles of Sri Lankan peacekeepers in foreign lands. Several others also shared views during the initial discussion at Kukuleganga.
