Indian Major General &;amp; Experts on Terrorism Visit Wanni and Meet Ex-combatants Under Rehabilitation

Major General (Retd) Ashok Metha of the Indian Army, accompanied by a team of New Delhi’s Central Security Committee members and two experts on international terrorism, Prof David Kilcullen and Prof Rohan Gunaratna, all of who attended the just concluded international seminar, ‘Defeating Terrorism-The Sri Lankan Experience’, separately visited Poonthottam Rehabilitation Centre for ex-LTTE combatants, Menik Farm Relief village, De-mining sites and resettled areas with   a view to observing ground realities.

They were received on arrival at the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni by Major General A.K.S Perera, Wanni Commander and conducted to the auditorium for an initial briefing.

Afterwards, the Indian delegation visited rehabilitees at Poonthottam, De-mining sites, resettled villages and civilians residing in the Menik Farm Relief village and spoke to a cross section of the civilians.

Meanwhile, both experts on terrorism who were recently in Wanni inquired into various aspects of the rehabilitation training being given to those youngsters and interacted with civilians during their stint at the Relief village after their arrival in Vavuniya.

The Indian delegation was received at the Vavuniya Air Base by General Officer Commanding 21 Division Brigadier A. S. de Z. Wickramarathne.

Commander, Security Forces Wanni Major General A. K. S. Perera during meetings with both delegations presented a comprehensive account on the ongoing development projects in the area and roles being played by the Army.
