Indian Army Southern Commander Visits Jaffna

Southern Commander of the Indian Army Lieutenant General A.K. Singh who is on a goodwill tour to Sri Lanka visited Jaffna on Thursday (13).

During his visit he met the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe. Lieutenant General Singh and his entourage comprising Colonel N. Subramaniam, Military Assistant and Captain (Navy) Anil Kapoor, Defence Attaché of the Indian High Commission in Colombo were received by the General Officer Commanding 51 Division Brigadier Piyal Wickramaratne on Thursday (13) morning at the Palaly airport.

Major General Hathurusinghe explained about the Security situation and the effort being taken by the Army to maintain good relations with the civil society for lasting peace. De-mining which is at the verge of completion, already completed resettlement of IDPs, welfare measures being executed by the Army for civilians, livelihood projects initiated by the Army for reintegrated ex-LTTE combatants and the government development programmes in Jaffna earned good remarks of the visiting Indian General.

He also met the Governor for Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri and visited the Nallur Kanthaswamy Hindu Temple and the historical Portuguese Fort before leaving Jaffna.
