Indian Army Southern Command Learns More About Wanni Development Roles


On his way back from Jaffna, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of India’s Southern Army Command Lieutenant General Ashok Singh, now in Sri Lanka on a formal visit arrived at Wanni Security Force Headquarters Thursday (20) afternoon.

Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) received the Indian delegation warmly at the Sri Lanka Air Force base before being conducted to the SFHQ-W premises, where the delegation was welcomed in conformity with Hindu traditions.

A comprehensive account of the roles and tasks as well as current development projects, for which Wanni troops are throwing their weight behind, was afterwards presented before the visiting Southern Commander of the Indian Army with special focus on the projects, underway to improve living standards of resettled civilians and the war-affected infrastructure in the Wanni at the SFHQ-W auditorium.

Major General Boniface Perera during the friendly interaction explained him on the series of measures that have been so far implemented by the government under the ongoing ‘Uthuru Wasanthaya’ (Northern Spring) programme, designed to coordinate and launch all development projects.

Towards the end of the cordial meeting, an exchange of mementos took place, symbolizing memories associated with the visit of the Indian Southern Command. A cultural spectacle, depicting Tamil culture, provided entertainment to the occasion.   

Mrs Usha Singh, spouse of the visiting military leader, accompanying delegates, Major General Dewan Rabindranath Soni, Operations Officer, Southern Command Headquarters of the Indian Army and his spouse were associated with the Wanni visit.
