Indian Army Chief Shares Goodwill Sentiments with HE the President

General Bipin Rawat, the visiting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of India as part of the final day's itinerary in Sri Lanka had the distinction of meeting with the Head of the State, HE the President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo this morning (18).

The visiting Army Chief was received warmly by the President on his arrival after exchanging mutual greetings. General Bipin Rawat during his audience with the President expressed his satisfaction over the revival of Sri Lanka's post-war infrastructure development which has been supported by the Army and other services.

President Sirisena recalled friendly gestures of goodwill and understanding that exist between two nations and members of the Security Forces in both countries. He also refreshed the memories of ancestral roots that brought Buddhism and a rich cultural diversity to Sri Lanka in the past.

Pledging his co-operation towards training of members of Sri Lankan Armed Forces in future too, the Army chief thanked HE the President for the audience he has had with him despite busy schedules.

To signify the cordial meeting, the visiting Army Chief awarded a memento to the President Sirisena as a symbol of goodwill. In return, HE the President also presented a plaque to the visiting Army Chief in appreciation of his visit to the country.

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayaka, Commander of the Army, the host to the Indian Commander was also present during the presidential meeting.
