THE First Lady Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa accompanied by a few Seva Vanitha philanthropists went to Vavuniya this morning (22) to see the displaced civilians who are housed at the Menik Farm Relief Village in Vavuniya.
Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Competent Authority for the Northern Province Major General G.A. Chandrasiri received the visiting First Lady and her retinue and conducted them to the Menik Farm Relief Village where thousands of IDPs are receiving temporary shelter.
During the visit organized by “Siriliya Saviya” project, ladies distributed essential items to the total value of Rs. 5 million among the families. Each family received goods worth of Rs 5000/=.
Mashers were who taken to conduct a special eye clinic was held for the IDPs and pairs of spectacles were distributed among those poor in eye sight.
Mrs. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane, Mrs. Lalith Weeratunga, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch Mrs. Anoma Fonseka, President Seva Vanitha Air Force Branch Mrs. Nelun Gunathilaka, President Seva Vanitha Police Branch Mrs. Anoma Gunathilaka Wickramarathna and Secretary to the Health Ministry Dr. Kahanda Liyanagamage were among the participants in the visit.
