Heads of Foreign Missions in Colombo Visit Jaffna

A TEAM of foreign diplomats and officials from foreign missions based in Colombo flew to Palali, Jaffna on 25th November morning to get an idea of the present security situation in Jaffna.

The delegation including Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Djafar Husein, his Second Secretary Mr. John Admiral, High Commissioner of Malaysia Mr. Rosll Ismail, his First Secretary Mr. Mohd Ezuwan Hassan, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. Thinakorn Kanasuta, his Second Secretary Ms. Kantaga Buraphatanin, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Mr. Choi Id-Chul the and counselor Mr. Sang Soung-Man was received by the Commander Security Forces Headquarters-(Jaffna) Major General L.B.R Mark at SFHQ(J).

Jaffna Commander submitted them a detailed account of the current security situation, coordination of development activities in the Jaffna peninsula and the assistance given to those activities by the Security Forces. 

Maj. Gen. Mark also described about the humanitarian activities being carried out by the Security Forces for the benefit of Jaffna civilians and projects launched to improve the living standard of the people. 

Later, they visited Thelippalai Rehabilitation Centre and talked to the former LTTE members who are being rehabilitated at the centre and witnessed themselves the basic facilities, vocational training and other infrastructures given to them at the centre.

The delegation also made an observation tour to Jaffna library and participated in a discussion held at the Jaffna Kachcheri where the Jaffna District Secretary Mr. K. Ganesh explained them about the resettlement of IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) and the financial assistance provided to them.

Mr. Ganesh further described about the Relief Villages, transportation of passengers and goods on the A-9 high way and progress of the Uthuru Wasanthaya development programme.

In the afternoon, they visited Ramavil Welfare village in Mirusavil and looked into the facilities and requirement of the IDPs there before they left  Jaffna.
