HE Greets War Heroes Who Bagged Volleyball 'Bronze' at World Cup


Twelve War Heroes who represented Sri Lanka in the World Championship Volleyball Tournament for the disable, held in Cambodia, on July 20 - 30, met HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa Thursday (25) evening at Temple Trees. The Sri Lankan team secured the third place claiming the Bronze medal in the tournament.

HE the President who posed for a group photograph with the 2nd runners-up team greeted every one individually and highly appraised the courage and commitment of those disable War Heroes. HE also thanked the War Heroes for bringing credit to the motherland by winning the Bronze Medal, even after many sacrifices they have made to bring peace to the island nation. President Rajapaksa gave away gift parcels to those participants in the tournament.
    
This was the first time a volleyball team of the disable from Sri Lanka participated in an overseas tournament. Slovakia, Laos, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Germany, India, Malaysia, Egypt, China, Thailand and Australia were the other countries represented the tournament.

Ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Dilan Perera, Major General E.P. De Z Abeysekara (chief of the team), Mr. Karunaratne Wickremasinghe (Secretary), A.C.K Arthanayaka (team leader), Lalith Premalal (coach) and Anura Sumanasekara (assistant coach) were present at the occasion.
