GR Gymnastic Players Win Championship

The finals and the closing ceremony of the Inter Regiment Gymnastics Tournament (novices) in the Army, organized by the Army Gymnastic Sport Committee, took place Friday (13) evening at Panagoda Army Cantonment.

Major General R.A Kaduwela, Chief Signal Officer, witnessed the final encounter as the Chief Guest. Private S.W. Jayathilake of Gajaba Regiment (GR) as the Best Gymnastic Player carried away the trophy in the tournament.

This championship was conducted under six categories; Floor Exercises, Parallel Bars, Long Horse, Horizontal Bar, Roman Ring and Pommel Horse with the participation of 55 novices, selected from 09 Regiments from the Army.

Gajaba Regiment (GR) emerged victorious securing 18 marks (3x Gold medals and 1 x Silver medal) beating Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment players who scored 15.5 marks (1 x Gold medal, 3 x Silver medals and 2 x Bronze medals).

Trophies to the winners were awarded by the Chief Guest. Several senior officers and fans of Gymnastics attended the event.
