Government Allocates 54 Buses for Jaffna

THE Government handed over 54 reconditioned buses to the Northern Sri Lanka Transport Board on July 23, for strengthening and streamlining the transport service in the Peninsula.

The handing over of these buses to the General Manager of the Northern SLTB took place at a ceremony chaired by Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda at the Jaffna Central College grounds.

Senior Advisor to the President, Basil Rajapaksa, MP said it was the efforts put in by Minister Devananda that made possible to get these buses down to Jaffna from Colombo to add to the Peninsula's transport service. He was instrumental and the force behind in attending to the reconditioning of this fleet of buses, Mr. Basil Rajapaksa added.

Minister Devananda thanked President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his senior advisor for extending their fullest co-operation in this endeavour and added that the buses would strengthen and ease the transport problems of the people of Jaffna. The Minister also said that the vacancies in the SLTB Northern region would soon be filled.
