General Public Alerted to Mine Risk Awareness

Sri Lanka Army in collaboration with the Regional Mine Action Office (RMAO), Jaffna recently had a two-day Mine Risk Education workshop at Jaffna Hindu College to coincide with the International Mine Action Day that fell on 4th of April.

The workshop included a variety of programmes such as lectures, discussions, dramas and exhibitions offering a comprehensive knowledge to schoolchildren, teachers and a section of the general public on risks posed by mines.

Live mine detecting demonstrations staged by mine detection dogs in the Sri Lanka Army impressed all who attended the programme.

In order to further forge and promote better understanding and relations, a friendly cricket match played jointly between the teams of Danish De-mining Group (DDG), HALO Trust, RMAO-Jaffna, UNICEF and the Army de-mining teams culminated the event.
 
Senior Army officers, senior officials of DDG, HALO Trust, RMAO-Jaffna and UNICEF were present during the chain of events.
