Following the approval of the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Minister of Defence, HE the President, the Commander of the Army on the directions of the Ministry of Defence, has offered a general amnesty for Army absentees, enabling them to receive their legal discharge from the Army.
This was announced on Thursday (19) during a Press briefing, held at the MoD Media Centre, led by Major General Sudath Perera, Director General, Personnel Administration, Major General Roshan Seneviratne, Military Spokesman and Director General, Directorate of Media at Army Headquarters, Brigadier D.K.G.D Sirisena, Provost Marshal, Brigadier Leslie Wijesundara, Director Pay and Records, Brigadier Edward Jayasinghe, Director Legal and Brigadier Shantha Eshwaran, Additional Military Secretary.
The general amnesty that coincides with the 68th Army anniversary is to be effective from October 23 and will continue till November 15, 2017. This amnesty would enable Army absentees to directly reach respective Regimental Headquarters and receive their legal discharge.
However, absentees in the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps would not receive discharge under this amnesty.
During the same briefing, Major General Sudath Perera also declared that the Army drive for enlistment of Officers and Other Rankers is now underway.
