Gajaba Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit Offers Schools

COINCIDING with the 25th Regimental anniversary, the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) organized a special welfare workshop for disabled GR soldiers and a scholarship project for school children of War Hero families at Senapura Army camp on the 1st of November.

During the ceremony, 20 school children of War Hero families received scholarships sponsored by Sri Lankan Association of London East with coordination of senior GR Seva Vanitha member Mrs P.R.G.G. Zoysa.

At the same time, a medical staff including 20 specialist doctors attended to medical needs of 375 disabled soldiers at the Senapura Army Camp and gave necessary treatment to them during the special medical clinic organized by the GR Seva Vanitha Unit. Dr. Mrs. Maya De Silva, a senior GR Seva Vanitha member coordinated the project during which parcels of essential items were distributed among all soldiers who attended the clinic. In addition, 100 boys and 76 girls respectively received school uniform cloths and sets of exercise books.  

Meanwhile, Mrs. Prajeewa Alwis and Mrs. Lakmini Muthuminithilaka, two senior GR Seva Vanitha members donated six artificial legs to six disabled soldiers. Five of them were donated by Mrs. Prajeewa Alwis.

In the meantime, Talangama South Lion's Club donated thirteen ceiling fans, five mattresses and one gas cooker for the use of disable soldiers at the Senapura camp. 

The programme was organized on the instructions of GR Seva Vanitha President Mrs. Sarojini Daulagala. Colonel of the Regiment Major General S.W.L. Daulagala, officers and other ranks of the Regiment, a section of War Heroes and their family members attended the function.
