Gajaba Regiment New Colonel of the Regiment Takes Office

Major General Shavendra Silva recently assumed duties as the 11th Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) amidst Buddhist religious observances. He is also the Adjutant General of the Army.

Upon his arrival at the GR Regimental Headquarters at Saliyapura, Anuradhapura, the new Colonel of the Regiment was greeted to a Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour in the premises. Major General Silva paid his respect to the father of the Gajaba Regiment, late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne by placing a floral wreath at his statue soon after he entered the premises.

A little later, the new Colonel of the Regiment addressed the troops and shared refreshments with the gathering present at the occasion.

Major General Shavendra Silva is the first officer posted directly to the Gajaba Regiment after he passed out as a Second Lieutenant.
