First Inter Regiment Muaythai Tournament Ends

Army Muaythai Committee organized first Inter regiment amateur muaythai championship got underway at 3 Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Headquarters at Aselapura on Sunday (17).

This novel initiative of the Army Muaythai Committee was conducted under the amateur Muaythai rules and regulations.

Around 40 male athletes represented in the tournament under 10 weight categories and 5 female athletes also represented under 5 Weight categories.

Athletes had to fight 3 rounds in 2 minutes session and 1 minutes rest after each round. All fighters’ displayed high skill, stamina and courage in the ring.

Major General Manoj Muadannayaka, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Muaythai Committee closely supervised the proceedings.

Commando Regiment troops dominated male category with two wins and one runner-up slots.

Sri Lanka Signal Corps and Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment teams secured one win and two runners-up titles each and became the second place.

Mechanized Infantry Regiment and Corps of Engineer Services secured one win and one runner-up each and became third runners-up in the tournament.

5 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps secured 3 wins and 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps and 3 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps teams won each.

Totally 33 fights were conducted during the tournament.

Before the tournament, Sri Lanka Army Muaythai Committee members sat an examination on ‘Khan’ prescribed by Sri Lanka Army Muaythai Committee on Friday (15). Instructor course and Basic course student were graded under the international rules and regulations. Students display their ability of Basic steps, Punches, Elbows, Knee strike ,Push kicks, Linear kicks, Throws, Grips, Releasing techniques as part of Muaythai Syllabus.

As per the laid down instruction MuayBoran skills also test in Special Forces, Commando, Snipers and Military Intelligence Corps and instructor pool. That includes Mae Mai (Major Tricks), Boran basic steps, Counter attacks and KonMuaythai techniques (Traditional Techniques).

Muaythai Army Combat and Self Defense techniques ability was tested specially in SLAWC troops. That include Releasing techniques, Grip, Counter Grip and Releasing techniques combined with close attacks techniques.
