Final Preparations for 'Victory Day Parade' Done


‘Victory Parade’, the highlight of the National War Hero Commemoration Month, (Jathika Ranaviru Semarum Maasaya), scheduled on Sunday (May 18) with tri-service, Police and Civil Security Department War Heroes at Matara, is now fully geared to staging it on a grand scale.

The architect of the event, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, together with Chief of Defence Staff, General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal  K.A Gunatilleke, Inspector General of the Police, Mr N.K. Illangakoon, Director General, Civil Security Department, Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris, Parliamentarian Sanath Jayasuriya, Major General (Retd) Nanda Mallawarachchi, Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Peace and a host of senior officers on Saturday (17), went to the venue at Matara in order to inspect the last minute rehearsing arrangements before tomorrow’s finale.

Religious dignitaries, HE the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister, Speaker, Chief Justice, Secretary to President, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, Chief of Defence Staff, Tri-Service Commanders, Inspector General of the Police, Director General, Civil Security Department and a host of invitees, including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Parliamentarians, Heads of State Agencies, Diplomats will take part in the event.

Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa watched the parade in rehearsal and gave instructions for improvement as hundreds of tri-service personnel marched in procession.
