Field Marshal Fonseka Salutes Memories of Fallen War Heroes

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka soon after investiture ceremony on his promotion to the rank of Field Marshal at MoD ground Sunday (22) evening, amid a distinguished gathering, headed by President Maithripala Sirisena, went to the War Memorial at Battaramulla and paid his respect to fallen War Heroes in the battlefield.

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, together with his spouse, Mrs Anoma Fonseka on arrival at the venue, was received by Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Military Secretary in the company of several senior officers and conducted to the memorial in a procession. 

Field Marshal Fonseka, together with Major General Senanayake and Mrs Fonseka solemnly walked to the memorial afterwards and placed a floral wreath in memory of all War Heroes who had laid their lives for defence of the motherland and eradication of terrorism from Sri Lanka.

Sounding of the Last Post in line with military traditions signalled the end of the brief memorial service. Before his exit from the venue, Field Marshal Fonseka shared a couple of views with the senior officers present at the ceremony.
