Felicitation Ceremony on Field Marshal Fonseka Held at His Own Sinha Regiment Hqrs on Grand Scale

Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), renewing its ancient traditions and military formalities, saluted the newly-promoted Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka on Saturday (11) in a fitting ceremony, held at the SLSR Regimental Headquarters at Ambepussa, giving pride of place to military formalities.

During his first formal visit to the SLSR Regimental Headquarters after his promotion to the rank of Field Marshal, a Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour, saluted Field Marshal Fonseka after he was warmly received by Major General Boniface Perera, Colonel of the Regiment, SLSR and Brigadier B.A.L Rathnayake, Centre Commandant, SLSR when he was accorded the Guard Turnout.

As melodies of patriotic songs began echoing, the day’s Chief Guest, Field Marshal Fonseka at the request of the Parade Commander, Captain W.M.B Weerakoon, afterwards, reviewed the Guard of Honour seconds before he formally received the salute in conformity with military traditions.

Paying his deep respect to the memory of fallen SLSR War Heroes, Field Marshal Fonseka was ushered to lay a floral wreath at the SLSR War Memorial at Ambepussa. The solemn ceremony recalled past memories of fallen SLSR War Heroes with dignity as the surroundings remained calm and quiet.

Leaving an indelible gesture in the premises, Field Marshal Fonseka was later on invited to plant a tree sapling at the SLSR Regimental Headquarters. Towards the end of the day’s ceremony, the Colonel of the Regiment Major General Perera presented a symbolic memento to the Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka before all of them sat for a group photo. A luncheon treat brought the occasion to an end.
