Fallen Defenders of the Nation Remembered in Island-wide Army Formations

All country-wide Security Force Headquarters, Divisions, Forward Maintenance Areas, Brigades, Army Training Schools,Regimental Centres, Units, Field Headquarters and War Hero Rehabilitation Centres on the directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake commemorated their fallen comrades concurrently at 9.30 am at all those places on Friday (18).

The day’s commemoration, dignified by the raising of National Flag and the Army Flag followed by recital of the Army Song and the National Anthem, two-minute silence in memory of fallen War Heroes, reading of the Commander's War Heroes' Day message, culminated with a troop address by respective heads of institutions.

Meanwhile, 57 Division Headquarters in Kilinochchi had another separate commemorative programme at Kandasami Kovil together with a large gathering of civilians. Troops of the 57 Division and civilians lit lamps and commemorate the dead during this ceremony organized under the guidance of General Officer Commanding, 57 Division.
