Expatriate’s Organization Gives Shoes & Kitchen Utensils Thru Army Coordination

A mammoth free distribution of 600 pairs of shoes for students and a large stock of kitchen utensils for poverty-stricken families took place on Saturday (16) simultaneously at Sri Wigneshwara College, Paranthan Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, Mukkampon Government’s Tamil Mixed School and Jayapuram Maha Vidyalaya, following close coordination done by 661 Brigade, 1 Gajaba Regiment (GR) battalion, 20 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) battalion and 663 Brigade Headquarters of the 66 Infantry Division under the guidance of Major General Ralph Nugera, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN).

Mr Aravindan Vijay, a US-based expatriate and Director of ‘Foundation for Hope of California’, appreciative of the Army commitment to the uplift of living standards of poor Tamil civilians in remote areas, volunteered the sponsorship for purchase of those donations for students and civilians, worth a few lakhs.

Representing the ‘Foundation for Hope of California’ Mr Gamini Wanasinghe attended the distribution ceremonies, organized at all four schools, together with Brigadier Mangala Wijesundara, General Officer Commanding, 66 Infantry Division, 661, 662 and 663 Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Grama Seva Officials, teachers and beneficiaries.
